This video is produced based on a family caregiver’s journal. It allows us to share stories about the mother-daughter interactions from the early stages of dementia & as the condition progresses. Some of the issues highlighted include:
- Forgetfulness (Not recognising close family members)
- Confusion in carrying out routine tasks
- Changes in behaviour (hiding food in pockets, fearful, anxious)
- Hallucinations ( “seeing” a family member who has passed on … can bring on repeated cycles of grief)
- Restlessness at night/ sleep disturbance
- Moments of clarity
These stories demonstrate how dementia can affect relationships. They also show us how relationships can be maintained/ nurtured. Each person with dementia is different and they may not experience all of the issues listed above. We share snippets of other similar stories, why they occur and how to deal with such situations in the Dementia Stories section.
